When I was up at Crane Creek last week I had a conversation with a fellow who had been working on the San Francisco ~ Sonoma County Light Rail Project that we have desperately needed for some time now. He said that the project has been put on hold, once again, by Marin County, until probably after the first of the year. I am puzzled. The traffic situation is so much worse in Marin than in Sonoma. In fact, I was born and raised in Marin and did not move to Sonoma County until 1980. At that time, at took me approximately 3 hours to get from work to home, a distance of less than 50 miles. You would think that Marin would be more anxious than anyone to relieve their traffic problems. I hate bureaucracy!
Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) is a voter-approved passenger rail and bicycle-pedestrian pathway project located in Marin and Sonoma counties. It will serve a 70-mile corridor from Larkspur to Cloverdale, with a first phase from San Rafael to Larkspur.
